Applied Science Manager (Machine Learning)

Location: U.S. (Remote)

Salary: $180,000–$300,000 base annually, with total compensation of $300,000–$550,000 including equity.

What you will do

• Build and lead the Applied Science function, including its roadmap, vision, and quantitative infrastructure.
• Manage and grow a team of Applied Scientists in a player-coach role.
• Develop pricing algorithms, auction mechanisms, causal models, metric definitions, and experimentation frameworks.
• Set standards for marketplace measurement and communicate insights to product, engineering, finance, operations, and leadership.
• Prioritize research, analysis, and production work based on expected business impact.
• Partner with engineers to move models from prototype to production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, engineering, mathematics, or another quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience building and deploying quantitative models in applied or research settings.
• Fluency querying data with SQL or an equivalent tool.
• Experience designing and analyzing controlled experiments.
• 1–3 years of experience managing or leading a team.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in economics, operations research, statistics, engineering, or a related field.
• Experience taking prediction models from concept to production.
• Strong grounding in experimental design and causal inference.
• Experience in quantitative finance, economic consulting, marketplaces, or another data-intensive environment.
