Consultant, Java Back End Developer

Location: Toronto, ON; hybrid work with 1–3 days per week on-site and the remaining days remote. Candidates must be legally eligible to work at the specified location and may need a valid work or study permit.

What you will do

• Design and develop enterprise-scale Java backend applications and APIs.
• Analyze business requirements, apply appropriate design patterns, and implement complex system and business logic.
• Build microservices and integrate backend systems using SOAP, JSON, and RESTful web services.
• Support operational activities through troubleshooting, problem-solving, and performance tuning.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, modern engineering practices, and cloud-based technology capabilities.
• Coach junior developers and provide technical guidance across the team.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with Java/J2EE and Spring/Spring Boot.
• Proven enterprise experience with microservices and API development.
• Experience with SOAP, JSON, and RESTful web services.
• Strong coding, systems troubleshooting, problem-solving, and performance-tuning skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively, guide junior developers, and support continuous improvement.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada; a valid work or study permit may be required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Azure, OpenShift Container Platform, or equivalent cloud environments.
• Knowledge of modern development concepts, technologies, and practices.
