Database Engineer Intern - Summer 2027 (Fintech)

Location: Chicago office; onsite 5 days per week

What you will do

• Monitor database health, performance, and availability.
• Assist with database maintenance, including backups, restores, patching, and troubleshooting.
• Write and optimize SQL queries for retrieval, reporting, and incident analysis.
• Support documentation, runbooks, standard operating procedures, access management, and basic security configurations.
• Collaborate with software engineers and analysts to support data needs across teams.
• Assist with automation, data migration, replication, performance tuning, and disaster recovery testing.

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related field, with expected graduation by Summer 2029.
• Understanding of relational database concepts, including tables, indexes, keys, and normalization.
• Familiarity with SQL and exposure to PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, or another database platform.
• Experience coding in Python and exposure to scripting languages such as Bash or PowerShell.
• Basic understanding of Linux or Windows operating systems.
• Ability to work onsite at the Chicago office five days per week, with strong problem-solving, communication, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
