Casualty & Liability Claims Handler

Location: Basildon, England, United Kingdom. Hybrid working with a minimum of 3 days in the office, from 9:00am to 5:00pm with a 1-hour lunch break.

Brown & Brown is a large international insurance intermediary with an in-house claims team handling claims for its international underwriting division.

What you will do

• Manage third-party liability and property damage claims from first notification through settlement and closure.
• Handle a small portfolio of low-value personal injury claims, including liability assessment, medical evidence review, reserve management, and settlement.
• Investigate incidents using photographs, witness statements, engineering reports, repair estimates, invoices, and other evidence.
• Assess negligence, duty of care, causation, contributory negligence, policy coverage, fraud indicators, and litigation risk.
• Negotiate commercially sound settlements and manage claim lifecycles, reserves, service standards, and escalations.
• Maintain accurate claim files and management information in the Pro-Claim system while coordinating with policyholders, claimants, brokers, insurers, solicitors, engineers, and loss adjusters.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience handling third-party property damage claims within an insurer, MGA, broker, or third-party administrator.
• Strong knowledge of liability assessment, negligence principles, insurance coverage, claims protocols, and evidential requirements.
• Ability to assess causation, interpret medical evidence, evaluate injury quantum, and negotiate low-value bodily injury claims.
• Ability to manage reserves accurately and understand the financial impact of claims decisions.
• Competence with claims management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Cert CII is desirable; progress toward Dip CII is advantageous.

Nice to have

• Previous experience handling personal injury claims.
• Working knowledge of bodily injury claims, medical reporting, causation principles, and quantum assessment.
