TL;DR
Mid Career Spaceflight Hardware Propulsion Engineer (Aerospace): Developing, analyzing, testing, integrating, and certifying propulsion and spacecraft pressure-system hardware with an accent on fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, thermal systems, and flight-hardware verification. Focus on building and validating engineering models, investigating anomalies and nonconformances, evaluating test evidence, and supporting mission operations and human-rated spaceflight systems.

Location: NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas, United States; full-time onsite

Company

hirify.global provides engineering solutions for NASA programs and supports space exploration systems at centers across the United States.

What you will do

  • Apply fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, materials, structures, and machine-design principles to propulsion and spacecraft pressure systems.
  • Perform or lead propulsion and pressure-system analyses, develop and validate fluid-flow, thermal, thermodynamic, and pressure models, and maintain analysis tools.
  • Support propulsion hardware development from concept through fabrication, assembly, testing, integration, certification, and operation.
  • Plan, coordinate, witness, and evaluate component- and system-level tests, acceptance data, qualification reports, and verification evidence.
  • Investigate anomalies, nonconformances, and unexpected system behavior; develop recommendations for issue disposition and risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate technical activities with NASA offices, spacecraft organizations, suppliers, contractors, and international partners, including mission simulations and flight support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and typically 5–10 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, with working knowledge of heat transfer, engineering materials, mechanical systems, structures, or machine design.
  • Experience analyzing propulsion, pressure, fluid, or thermal systems and supporting hardware development, testing, integration, certification, or operation.
  • Ability to evaluate requirements, technical drawings, analyses, test plans, test results, verification evidence, risks, and technical issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple technical activities and work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • U.S. citizenship and successful completion of a background check are required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with spacecraft propulsion, aerospace pressure systems, human-rated spacecraft, or other safety-critical flight systems.
  • Experience with valves, regulators, tanks, filters, sensors, pressure vessels, tubing, and related mechanical hardware.
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, Thermal Desktop, CAD software, Creo, or comparable tools.
  • Experience with propulsion console operations, mission simulations, vehicle checkouts, flight support, supplier oversight, or technical mentoring.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work alongside NASA program and project offices, spacecraft organizations, suppliers, contractors, and international partners.
  • Work across laboratory, supplier, integration, mission-operations, and office environments.
  • Travel to supplier, test, integration, launch, or program locations when required by the assignment.
  • The position may involve transition among branch assignments as organizational needs change.
