Senior Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Hybrid work model with onsite attendance at least 50% of the time for employees within commuting distance of a hirify.global office.

Salary: CAD 151,000–189,000 per year.

What you will do

• Drive technical direction and architecture for ML and LLM systems across multiple Platform AI teams.
• Design secure, scalable, fault-tolerant, event-driven AWS Serverless solutions with strong observability and infrastructure as code.
• Evaluate and prototype LLM frameworks, model providers, and agentic tooling to support build-versus-buy decisions.
• Design, build, and scale OpenSearch, semantic search, vector search, and retrieval-augmented generation systems.
• Partner with Applied Scientists and Product teams to move AI capabilities from research prototypes into production systems.
• Mentor Staff Engineers and Applied Scientists, lead architecture discussions, and guide teams through ambiguous technical problems.

Requirements

• 10–15+ years of experience developing and operating high-scale, secure cloud applications, including Staff-level work across multiple teams.
• Strong Python skills with pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn, applying SOLID design principles.
• Experience with AWS infrastructure as code, including CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, model evaluation, and RAG-based functionality.
• Experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, semantic search, and vector embeddings.
• Demonstrated mentorship of senior or Staff-level engineers and experience across the full AI solution lifecycle.
