TL;DR
Mechanical Designer (Spacecraft Hardware) (Aerospace): Designing, developing, and testing mechanical and electromechanical components for reliable satellite flight systems with an accent on spacecraft hardware, CAD, prototyping, and environmental testing. Focus on integrating and verifying hardware, performing vibration and thermal-cycle tests, and solving design challenges across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Location: On-site in Montréal, Canada, at the RCA Victor Building in Saint-Henri
Company
develops Pulsar, a low-Earth-orbit satellite infrastructure platform providing precise, resilient global positioning and navigation services.
What you will do
- Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical components and assemblies for spacecraft hardware.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and design documentation using tools such as SolidWorks.
- Support requirements definition, trade studies, engineering analyses, and design reviews.
- Perform hardware bring-up, integration, verification, prototype builds, troubleshooting, and design improvements.
- Develop and execute mechanical tests, including vibration and thermal cycling, and document the results.
- Collaborate with controls, electrical, systems, avionics, software, manufacturing, supplier, and test teams throughout the development lifecycle.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in mechanical design, development, testing, or a related engineering role; relevant project or internship experience is considered for new graduates.
- Familiarity with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
- Understanding of machine design, mechanics of materials, kinematics, dynamics, and thermodynamics.
- Experience with or strong interest in mechanical testing, prototyping, and hands-on hardware development.
- Successful candidates must obtain and maintain Canadian reliability-status security clearance and pass assessments for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and ITAR.
Nice to have
- Experience with precision mechanisms, robotics, electric motors, or high-speed rotating assemblies.
- Exposure to spacecraft systems, ADCS hardware, or electromechanical control systems.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis for structural, thermal, or dynamic applications.
- Experience supporting hardware integration, assembly, environmental testing, or qualification activities.
- Understanding of control systems or control theory.
Culture & Benefits
- Hands-on work spanning early prototyping, spacecraft integration and testing, and full-scale manufacturing.
- Collaborative, multidisciplinary environment focused on reliable flight hardware.
- Work culture emphasizing ownership, accountability, curiosity, and proactive risk communication.
- Opportunities to progressively take ownership of assigned components or subsystems under senior engineering guidance.
