Engineering Technician (Mechanical Fabrication)

Location: hirify.global Vancouver Campus, Vancouver, BC, Canada; onsite role

Salary: $7,309.00–$7,798.00 CAD monthly

What you will do

• Design, fabricate, modify, maintain, and repair specialized research and teaching equipment, devices, and components.
• Translate user requirements, sketches, and technical drawings into technical solutions and CAD drawings.
• Operate lathes, milling, drilling, grinding, and sawing equipment while working with metal, plastic, wood, and other materials.
• Support shared technical facilities, including the machine shop, rock cutting room, and rock crushing room.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment recordkeeping.
• Train faculty, staff, students, and apprentices in the safe use of equipment and technical facilities.

Requirements

• Graduation from a technical college or institute, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship, plus at least five years of related experience or an equivalent combination.
• Recognized machinist, millwright, tool and die maker, or related trade certification is preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to safely operate machine tools and independently perform machining, fabrication, maintenance, and repair work.
• Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electromechanical, or scientific equipment; metal fabrication and welding experience is preferred.
• Proficiency with CAD software and knowledge of circuitry, electronics, and instrumentation.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with users who have different levels of technical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with CNC systems, 3D printing, microcontrollers, LabVIEW, Arduino, or Python.
• Experience in scientific, research, or post-secondary environments and in designing and fabricating experimental equipment.
