Software Engineer II, Backend (Decisions Orchestration)

Location: Remote within the United States; occasional in-person work at an Affirm office and in-person onboarding may be required.

Base pay: $165,000–$225,000 per year in CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $146,000–$206,000 per year in other U.S. states.

What you will do

• Design and implement APIs and microservice interfaces for checkout transactions.
• Build financial products and features that improve accessibility and payment flexibility.
• Own checkout system components and define their long-term health.
• Improve the performance, reliability, tooling, and engineering standards of checkout systems.
• Collaborate with technical leaders and engineers across the organization on the next generation of the checkout platform.

Requirements

• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Experience developing, testing, and shipping high-quality software at scale.
• Ability to make technical decisions, define projects, and solve open-ended engineering problems.
• Clear written and verbal communication with a collaborative approach.
• Customer-centric mindset and willingness to mentor and provide feedback to other engineers.
• Experience with Python, Kotlin, RPC, Redis, MySQL, AWS, and GitHub.
