Senior Java Developer (API Gateway)

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain API Gateway platform components, including configuration controllers, routing services, and domain circuit breakers.
• Develop NGINX-based gateway configurations and custom modules for API gateway, integration, outbound traffic, and front-end hosting use cases.
• Automate resource management, configuration deployment, and release orchestration through the automation framework.
• Improve reliability and availability through circuit breakers, canary deployments, DDoS mitigation, and multi-data-center resilience patterns.
• Collaborate with platform engineers, SREs, security teams, and product teams to onboard domains, troubleshoot issues, and define gateway standards.
• Support P1/P2 incident management, post-mortems, automated testing, configuration validation, and CI/CD rollouts.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating distributed systems or platform and infrastructure products.
• Strong proficiency in Java.
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration, including Kubernetes or Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of NGINX configuration, modules, and reverse proxy patterns, or comparable API gateway technologies.
• Understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/mTLS, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and DMZ architectures.
• Strong debugging, incident response, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience operating API gateways at scale in an enterprise or financial services environment.
• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, and SAML.
• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, SRE practices, high availability, and disaster recovery.
