QA Engineer - Java, Automation - 12 Month FTC

Location: Hybrid working in the United Kingdom, with office locations in London, Cambridge, and Leeds; office attendance is expected at least twice each month.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and execute Java-based automated test frameworks and suites using Selenium and RestAssured.
• Create and execute automated UI, API, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests.
• Improve unit, integration, API, and end-to-end coverage through shift-left quality engineering across the SDLC.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, automated test execution, test data management, and quality reporting.
• Investigate defects, contribute to root cause analysis, and maintain traceability across requirements, tests, defects, and evidence.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, SMEs, and QA colleagues in Agile ceremonies and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Commercial experience as a QA Engineer with strong hands-on Java test automation experience.
• Experience with Selenium, RestAssured, UI and API testing, and functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Understanding of software testing principles, SDLC, Agile development, quality engineering, test design, planning, execution, and defect management.
• Experience creating Gherkin test cases, maintaining test documentation, and ensuring full requirements-to-evidence traceability.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Git, CI/CD pipelines, test data, databases, and SQL.
• ISTQB Foundation Certification or an equivalent software testing qualification is required as an advantage but is not essential.

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare, NHS, genomics, medical devices, life sciences, or another regulated environment.
• Experience with AWS, cloud-native applications, distributed systems, Playwright, Cypress, PACT, Python, WireMock, or BrowserStack.
• Knowledge of accessibility, security, performance, non-functional testing, FHIR, or OWASP ZAP.
