TL;DR
Mechanical Design Engineer II (Radar): Designing and developing mechanical components and electro-mechanical assemblies for AI-enabled radar and multi-sensor products with an accent on CAD, manufacturability, prototyping, and testing. Focus on creating reliable hardware from concept through production, applying GD&T and tolerance stackups, and resolving integration issues through hands-on validation.

Location: Burlington, Massachusetts, United States, with limited travel to Hoffman Estates, Illinois for lab and field activities.

Compensation: $100,000–$130,000 per year, depending on experience.

Company

hirify.global develops AI-enabled radar and sensing systems that combine advanced radar, edge computing, and AI for situational awareness in challenging environments.

What you will do

  • Design mechanical components and electro-mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD tools.
  • Develop products from concept and detailed design through fabrication, integration, testing, and production.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, assembly procedures, and build instructions.
  • Apply materials, tolerances, fasteners, manufacturing methods, GD&T, and tolerance stackups to create practical and reliable designs.
  • Build and test prototypes, troubleshoot mechanical and system-integration issues, and refine designs based on test results.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and systems engineers, suppliers, and manufacturing partners during production transition and field deployments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4–6 years of professional experience in mechanical design and hardware development.
  • Experience with 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks, including parts, assemblies, and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience taking mechanical designs from concept development through prototype fabrication and testing.
  • Knowledge of mechanical tolerances, materials, fasteners, manufacturing processes, assembly practices, machining, and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Experience with physical hardware testing and troubleshooting, technical documentation, GD&T, and tolerance stackups according to ASME Y14.5. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship and may need to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting production builds or resolving manufacturing issues with suppliers or contract manufacturers.
  • Experience with ruggedized electronics, radar, sensing systems, or integrated electro-mechanical products.
  • Experience with thermal, structural, shock, or vibration analysis and testing.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing, rapid prototyping, wiring, soldering, and diagnostic tools.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on individual contributor work with physical hardware and real-world product deployments.
  • Cross-functional collaboration across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and systems engineering.
  • Opportunity to work across the full product lifecycle, from early concepts through production and field use.
  • Limited travel may be required for lab testing, customer demonstrations, and field deployments.
