TL;DR
Design Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and documenting mechanical components, assemblies, layouts, calculations, and manufacturing drawings for defense research programs with an accent on machined components, electronic packaging, and precision documentation. Focus on developing complex assembly concepts, applying ASME Y14.5 GD&T and MIL-Specs, and supporting fabrication and assembly in an onsite environment.
Location: 100% onsite in Lexington, Massachusetts; must live within 100 miles of Lexington and be a US citizen

What you will do
- Design and document mechanical components and complex assemblies in collaboration with engineering staff.
- Develop design concepts, layouts, basic calculations, and finished manufacturing drawings.
- Specify dimensional tolerances, surface finishes, materials, and design-for-manufacturability requirements.
- Prepare engineering release and revision documentation, fabrication orders, and assembly files.
- Support fabrication and assembly processes involving machined metal components and conventional machining.
- Present findings and results to internal and external organizations while working independently or with interdisciplinary groups.
Requirements
- US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret Clearance are required.
- 100% onsite work is required in Lexington, Massachusetts, within a 100-mile radius.
- At least 9 years of relevant experience, including mechanical engineering, mechanical design, product design, and fabrication or assembly file generation.
- At least 4 years of SolidWorks 3D CAD experience; candidates without SolidWorks experience will not be considered.
- Experience with ASME Y14 standards, ASME Y14.5 GD&T, MIL-Specs, mechanical fabrication, and assembly techniques.
- Experience in mechanical or mechanism design, optical-mechanical systems, electronic packaging, or structural design, primarily involving machined components.
Nice to have
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience with aircraft, missile, spacecraft, or ground support equipment.
- Mechanism design, opto-mechanics, additive manufacturing, or structural design experience.
- Openness to upgrading to a TS-level clearance.
