Associate Scientist or Scientist (Genome Editing) (Cellular Therapy/Genome Editing): Developing and characterizing genome-edited human hematopoietic stem cell products for sickle cell disease and other hematological diseases with an accent on lipid nanoparticle delivery, IND-enabling studies, and process development. Focus on flow cytometry, sequencing-based editing analysis, in vitro and xenotransplantation assays, and transferring reproducible processes to GMP manufacturing.

Location: Memphis, TN, United States; this is an onsite position and relocation assistance is available.

Salary: $86,320–$154,960 per year for the Associate Scientist or Scientist role. An Associate Scientist salary range of $65,520–$114,400 is also provided.

What you will do

  • Develop genome-editing strategies for human hematopoietic stem cells targeting sickle cell disease and other hematological diseases.
  • Design and execute IND-enabling studies to characterize the pharmacology, efficacy, safety, and potency of genome-edited cellular products.
  • Perform multicolor flow cytometry, FACS sorting, in vitro assays, and xenotransplantation studies.
  • Develop RT-PCR, ddPCR, next-generation sequencing, single-cell sequencing, and editing-outcome analysis methods.
  • Evaluate scale-up and closed-system processes, including process tracking, trending, and pilot-run reproducibility.
  • Prepare protocols, batch records, and reports to standardize and transfer processes to a GMP facility while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field is required; a Master’s or PhD is highly preferred.
  • Associate Scientist: 7+ years of research experience, or 5+ years with a Master’s degree, or 2+ years with a PhD.
  • Scientist: 8 years of relevant post-degree experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 6 years with a Master’s degree, or 3 years with a PhD.
  • Experience leading and supporting research experiments and coordinating laboratory or scientific projects.
  • Experience guiding and training laboratory personnel, with proven performance in a comparable role.
  • Regular and predictable onsite attendance in Memphis is required.

Nice to have

  • Expertise in lipid nanoparticle-based delivery technologies.
  • Experience with laboratory maintenance, research support activities, and process development.
