Focus on setting technical direction, leading failure investigations, defining analysis and test programs, and driving pressure vessel hardware from clean-sheet design through end-of-life.
Location: Long Beach, California, United States; occasional travel to suppliers and the Mojave Test Site.
Salary: $136,120–$193,224 USD per year

What you will do
- Lead the pressure vessel team, set technical direction, review work, and mentor engineers and analysts.
- Act as technical authority for Haven Station COPV and metallic tank designs, approving engineering releases.
- Define analysis and test programs covering composite layup, stress and fracture, proof, burst, cycle, and stress rupture testing.
- Lead failure investigations on prototype and qualification hardware and apply findings to subsequent design iterations.
- Own tank requirements and interfaces with Propulsion, ECLSS, Structures, manufacturing engineering, suppliers, winders, and fabrication shops.
- Develop and defend qualification and fracture control approaches for crewed flight.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science, or equivalent experience.
- At least 4 years of experience designing, analyzing, or testing pressure vessels or composite structures for flight or other high-consequence applications.
- Experience carrying hardware from design through build and test.
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers and reviewing design releases.
- Must meet U.S. export-control requirements by being a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends during critical mission milestones.
Nice to have
- Composite overwrapped pressure vessel design, analysis, or test experience.
- Design and qualification to AIAA S-081 or S-080 and fracture control for crewed spacecraft under NASA-STD-5019.
- Filament winding pattern design, composite manufacturing, and hands-on experience in a composites or pressure vessel shop.
- Titanium tank fabrication, including forgings, superplastic forming, welding, heat treatment, and inspection.
- Experience with propellant management devices, Type IV hydrogen or CNG tanks, Ansys, Abaqus, Femap/Nastran, laminate analysis, or WoundSim.
