TL;DR
Senior Propulsion Engineer (Rocket Propulsion): Developing cryogenic propulsion systems for sub-orbital VTVL vehicles with an accent on component sizing, combustion-device design, fluid-thermal modeling, manufacturing, and testing. Focus on designing high-pressure systems, conducting trade studies, building propulsion hardware, and validating performance through component and system tests.

Location: Mojave, California, United States; onsite office role. Relocation assistance is provided for qualified candidates moving to Mojave. Applicants must be U.S. Persons eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR.

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 USD base salary annually.

What you will do

  • Design and test rocket propulsion systems using cryogenic propellants.
  • Size propulsion components including combustion devices, valves, feed lines, turbomachinery, tanks, and pressurization systems.
  • Design and analyze injectors, combustion chambers, nozzles, gas generators, cooling channels, and related technologies.
  • Build fluid-thermal models, perform trade studies, and guide design decisions.
  • Create hardware drawings and component specifications for manufacturing, vendors, and procurement.
  • Develop test plans, execute component and system tests, analyze results, and support technical readiness and safety reviews.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 6+ years of relevant rocket propulsion system development experience.
  • Experience with cryogenic propellants, preferably liquid methane and liquid oxygen.
  • Experience designing and analyzing high-pressure fluid or pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to create conceptual designs, perform trade studies, and select a design baseline.
  • U.S. Person status and eligibility for required U.S. export authorizations are required.

Nice to have

  • M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent or CFX and rocket-engine modeling software.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing, CAD, pressure vessels, turbopumps, and hypergolic bipropellant systems.
  • Programming experience with Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or Fortran.
  • Hands-on fabrication, rocket fuel handling, and test-facility operations experience.
