Contracts Specialist, Discovery Sciences

Location: Remote position associated with Somerville, 08876, United States; light office-based duties may be required as needed. No travel expected.

What you will do

• Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize agreements for outsourced discovery science services.
• Support confidentiality agreements, work orders, amendments, and software and SaaS agreements for research activities.
• Negotiate directly with third-party suppliers using established templates, fallback positions, and playbooks.
• Manage a high volume of concurrent contracting assignments while meeting agreed timelines.
• Identify non-standard terms and risks, then escalate exceptions to contracting leadership with proposed options.
• Maintain contract intake, drafting, version control, status tracking, recordkeeping, and purchase requisitions in the relevant systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 2 years of contract drafting and negotiation experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CRO, or life sciences procurement.
• Working knowledge of intellectual property, confidentiality, indemnification, limitation of liability, and payment terms.
• Experience managing concurrent agreements, established templates, playbooks, approval frameworks, and a contract lifecycle management system.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including direct negotiation with external suppliers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Nice to have

• Experience contracting for outsourced research services, including preclinical CROs, discovery biology, chemistry services, or similar scientific services.
• Biology or related scientific background and familiarity with in vitro studies, in vivo studies, assay development, and chemistry services.
• Experience with software and SaaS agreements, research data platforms, SAP Ariba, or comparable procurement systems.
• Comfort using AI-enabled tools for contract drafting and review.
