TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer (Firmware): Developing and maintaining embedded firmware for next-generation neuromodulation medical devices with an accent on firmware architecture, hardware integration, verification, and safety-critical quality requirements. Focus on designing microcontroller software, debugging hardware interfaces, executing unit and system testing, and supporting regulated development under medical-device standards.

Location: Fridley, Minnesota, United States; onsite office role. Candidates must have unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and throughout employment.

Salary: $124,800–$187,200 per year, plus eligibility for the hirify.global Incentive Plan.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for neuromodulation medical devices.
  • Develop software for microcontrollers, processors, and hardware interfaces.
  • Translate system requirements into firmware architectures, designs, and implementations with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Perform unit, integration, and system-level testing, including automated testing and continuous integration.
  • Support hardware bring-up, laboratory debugging, root-cause investigations, and technical risk analysis.
  • Create compliant software documentation, participate in Agile development, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 4 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems development.
  • Experience with firmware for microcontrollers, embedded processors, or medical devices and with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS, ThreadX, or VxWorks.
  • Experience with hardware/software integration, debugging, laboratory testing, software architecture, design patterns, and object-oriented programming.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, BLE, USB, or Ethernet, plus source control and DevOps tools.
  • Unrestricted U.S. work authorization is required; sponsorship is available only for Principal-level roles and above.

Nice to have

  • Experience with FDA, IEC 62304, ISO 13485, or related quality standards.
  • Experience with systems engineering, requirements-based development, Agile environments, automated testing, and continuous integration.
