Nursing Informatics System Specialist I (Epic)

Location: Durham, North Carolina. Hybrid schedule with work at the Duke campus or Technology Education training facility at least 3 days per week; remote work is available otherwise. Occasional evening, weekend, or travel-based work may be required during system go-lives and critical deployments.

What you will do

• Develop and deliver classroom, virtual, and online training for clinicians using Maestro Care, Duke Health's version of Epic, and other informatics applications.
• Create eLearning modules, training materials, user documentation, and downtime procedures for EHR updates and system changes.
• Maintain Epic application training environments and serve as a training application expert for nurses, providers, pharmacists, and other clinical users.
• Round in clinical areas, provide informatics support, and advocate for clinical users and patient-safety needs.
• Collaborate with clinical leaders, informatics analysts, application staff, and project teams throughout the system life cycle.
• Review Maestro Care releases and upgrades, assess workflow impact, and support implementation activities.

Requirements

• BSN required, with coursework in mathematics, computer science, or a computer-related field.
• Minimum five years of nursing experience.
• At least one year of informatics educator or analyst experience, a relevant graduate informatics degree, or at least two years of EHR super-user experience.
• Current North Carolina or compact RN licensure required.
• BLS certification required.
• Ability to apply adult learning theory, develop educational offerings, support clinical workflows, and communicate with healthcare professionals and leadership.

Nice to have

• Radiology clinical experience.
• Inpatient and ambulatory clinical experience.
• Previous experience as a clinical informatics trainer.
