Jr. Software Engineer

Location: Remote within the United States; must reside in and be able to perform work in the United States. Must have lived in the United States for 3 of the last 5 years.

What you will do

• Enhance and maintain APIs, the Claim Ingest API, and backend supporting systems.
• Develop integrations with VA.gov, the VA API ecosystem, mobile applications, and staff-facing tools.
• Build performant, secure, and reliable services for automated claim adjudication and processing.
• Deliver code, tests, and documentation in two-week agile sprints, including code reviews and pair programming.
• Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD workflows and zero-downtime deployments.
• Troubleshoot production issues and participate in on-call escalations when needed.

Requirements

• Must be able to successfully obtain a U.S. Federal Position of Trust clearance.
• Must reside and work in the United States.
• Must have lived in the United States for 3 of the last 5 years.
• Experience developing backend services with modern programming languages.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, integrations, asynchronous processing, cloud deployment patterns, and automated testing.
• Ability to troubleshoot production issues and maintain strong code quality, security, and maintainability.
