TL;DR
Senior Electrical Engineer (Medical Devices): Designing and developing mixed-signal electronics for AI-powered digital stethoscopes and next-generation medical devices with an accent on low-noise biological signal acquisition, battery-powered hardware, and regulatory testing. Focus on taking designs from schematic through production, solving field failures, qualifying components, and improving manufacturing yield.

Location: Emeryville, California, United States. Hybrid role with in-office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Company

hirify.global develops FDA-cleared AI-powered digital stethoscopes and digital health tools for detecting heart and lung disease.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and test electronics for digital stethoscopes and related medical products.
  • Define next-generation hardware architectures and develop mixed-signal, battery-powered boards from schematics through production.
  • Capture biological signals including PCG and ECG and support sensor, algorithm, and firmware development where applicable.
  • Bring up new hardware, perform verification testing, contribute to DFMEA, and lead safety, EMC, and wireless testing.
  • Lead root cause analysis of field failures, implement design fixes, qualify replacement components, and improve production yield.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, acoustic, firmware, algorithm, quality, manufacturing, vendor, and laboratory partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience and a record of taking electronic products from concept through production.
  • Hands-on experience with analog and digital circuits, low-noise sensor front ends, amplifiers, filters, ADC interfaces, and mixed-signal PCB design.
  • Experience with battery-powered designs, power management, charging, low-power operation, grounding, power integrity, and EMC/ESD practices.
  • Experience supporting products in production, including root cause analysis, component substitution, contract manufacturing, and manufacturing tests.
  • Comfort using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, and similar laboratory equipment, with strong technical communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

  • Medical device development experience in FDA-regulated environments, including IEC 62304 and design controls.
  • Experience with DSP on embedded platforms, audio signal processing, or ECG, PCG, and EMG acquisition circuits.
  • Familiarity with FCC, CE, and Bluetooth SIG wireless certification processes.
  • Experience with Altium Designer, Python, test automation, BOM optimization, or design for manufacturing.
  • Startup experience or contributions to open-source embedded projects.

Culture & Benefits

  • Mission-driven work focused on improving cardiac and pulmonary care for patients.
  • Generous paid time off, parental leave, and medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance.
  • Stock incentive plans, One Medical membership, 401(k) matching, and a learning and development stipend.
  • Cross-functional collaboration within a team of engineers, physicians, PhDs, creatives, and technologists.
