Health Policy Reporter

Location: Washington, DC; on-site with daily reporting from the Capitol

Base salary: $75,000–$85,000 per year

What you will do

• Write a morning newsletter covering breaking news, government policy developments, and legislative analysis.
• Pitch and write daily and enterprise stories for CQ.com, RollCall.com, and Roll Call print.
• Cover press conferences, hearings, committee markups, court developments, federal rule-making, and health care policy news.
• Report breaking news from the House and Senate floors and respond to newsroom information requests.
• Develop relationships with congressional and government agency sources and contribute to reporting, data quality, and product improvement.
• Share expertise through client and prospect webinars, sponsored events, podcasts, videos, and other platforms.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of journalism experience covering health care or related topics.
• Demonstrated ability to report on health care through the lens of Congress and federal agencies, state legislatures, or other policymaking institutions.
• Five published writing samples from newspapers, news websites, magazines, or other news outlets.
• Ability to write accurately, concisely, and engagingly under tight deadlines across digital, print, audio, and video formats.
• Knowledgeable and reliable sources beyond official spokespeople, with a record of producing original scoops and compelling news features.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; ability to analyze data to inform reporting.

Nice to have

• Experience covering Congress and federal agencies.
• Experience covering health care as a business or pharmaceuticals.
• Experience writing for a subscription-based website or publication.
