TL;DR
Process Engineer Transmissions & Drive Units (Manufacturing): Developing and launching transmission and drive unit assembly processes, equipment, and tooling from concept through manufacturing implementation with an accent on design for manufacturability, equipment integration, and supplier coordination. Focus on leading complex assembly-equipment projects, qualifying production systems, supporting prototype builds, and delivering continuous improvement within approved budgets.

Location: Hybrid, based at GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, United States, with reporting at least 3 times per week and travel under 25%

What you will do

  • Develop, source, build, qualify, install, and launch transmission and drive unit assembly processes and equipment.
  • Analyze product and machinery designs and apply design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Define and evaluate process concepts, tooling, equipment, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Lead complex equipment projects covering scope, timing, expenditures, installation, qualification, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate product engineering, operations, maintenance, quality, planning, and external suppliers.
  • Support prototype builds and refine product designs, processes, tooling, and equipment for manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Understanding of plant-floor manufacturing engineering and design for manufacturability.
  • Experience delivering mechanical or manufacturing engineering assignments individually or in teams.
  • Ability to manage technical projects from process and equipment design through launch and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to monitor project timing and expenditures and deliver within approved budgets.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid arrangement based in Warren, Michigan, with regular onsite reporting and occasional travel.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge or experience with transmission and drive unit BOP.
  • Experience leading large assembly-equipment projects or complex manufacturing programs.
  • Experience with supplier implementation, equipment integration, tooling qualification, or advanced process technology.
  • Global project experience with cross-functional teams across multiple regions.
