Senior Manager, dbt Fusion (Rust)

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately eight engineers working on the dbt V2 Core engine.
• Set a clear roadmap across product and engineering stakeholders and translate ambiguous requirements into scope, milestones, estimates, and tradeoffs.
• Guide technical design across the engine and its integrations with orchestration, IDE experiences, adapters, warehouses, and LakeCompute.
• Balance feature development with engine maintenance, framework modernization, documentation, and GA product stability.
• Contribute hands-on to technical design and implementation while coordinating initiatives across engineering teams.
• Help shape dbt Fusion as a language-aware transformation engine.

Requirements

• Experience leading teams through multiple concurrent priorities and complex integration points.
• Strong software-engineering fundamentals and prior experience as a senior or staff engineer, technical lead, or equivalent hands-on technical leader.
• Ability to lead system design from problem definition through implementation and delivery.
• Experience translating complex product requirements into credible engineering estimates, milestones, and tradeoffs.
• Strong judgment in balancing delivery, reliability, maintainability, technical debt, and product quality.
• Experience with complex software products, platform dependencies, data transformation, orchestration, query engines, databases, developer tools, compilers, or language tooling.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rust or another systems programming language, compilers, query planning, language servers, IDE tooling, or developer platforms.
• Experience with data transformation, orchestration, warehouse, or execution systems.
• Contributions to open-source projects or experience with open standards and technical communities.
• Familiarity with Apache Arrow, Apache Iceberg, DuckDB, ADBC, SQL semantics, query optimization, transpilation, data lineage, or governance.
• Experience in remote-first organizations, startups, or scale-ups.
