Operational Accountant (Onsite/Hybrid in Chicago)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; onsite/hybrid

W2 hourly rate: $50–70 per hour, depending on experience

What you will do

• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Analyze balance sheet and income statement activity, investigate discrepancies, and identify variances.
• Manage operational accounting activities across accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, fixed assets, and accruals.
• Support cash flow reporting, forecasting, treasury activities, internal audits, and external audit requests.
• Improve accounting processes, workflows, and internal controls to increase efficiency and scalability.
• Develop financial and operational reports and contribute to system implementations, automation initiatives, and special projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience in corporate accounting, public accounting, consulting, or a combination of these areas.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial close activities.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, stakeholder management, and prioritization skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with process improvement, automation tools, or system implementations.
• CPA, CPA-track status, or an equivalent professional certification.
