Operational Accountant (Onsite/Hybrid in Detroit)

Location: Detroit, Michigan, United States; onsite or hybrid work arrangement.

W2 hourly rate: $50–70 per hour, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Analyze balance sheet and income statement activity, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies.
• Manage operational accounting activities covering accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, fixed assets, and accruals.
• Support cash flow reporting, forecasting, treasury activities, and internal and external audits.
• Improve accounting processes, workflows, and internal controls to increase efficiency and scalability.
• Participate in system implementations, automation initiatives, reporting, special projects, and ad hoc financial analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience in corporate accounting, public accounting, consulting, or a combination of these areas.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting best practices.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial close activities.
• Proficiency with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.

Nice to have

• Experience with process improvement, automation tools, or system implementations.
• CPA, CPA-track status, or an equivalent professional certification.
