Commercial Credit Analyst (Government Banking)

What you will do

• Analyze new commercial credit requests, material modifications, renewals, and restructurings from initial deal screening through approval and the life of the loan.
• Review financial statements, tax returns, due diligence reports, credit bureau data, appraisals, industry research, and peer data to assess creditworthiness.
• Prepare independent credit analyses, risk ratings, financial spreads, cash flow analyses, collateral schedules, covenant sensitivity calculations, and guarantor statement reviews.
• Monitor existing credit portfolios through annual reviews, interim updates, covenant monitoring, problem-loan management, and early-warning indicators.
• Recommend transaction structures and risk mitigants across company, bank base-case, and downside scenarios.
• Partner with relationship managers, participate in client calls and credit discussions, support policy compliance, and present analysis to credit committees.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, plus at least one year of relevant experience; alternatively, five years of combined higher education and work experience including one year of relevant experience.
• Relevant experience may include commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation and analysis, or other financial analysis.
• Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and customer focus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Work is based in Buffalo, New York, United States of America.

• Experience with Capital IQ, FactSet, or Bloomberg.
