Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; core collaboration hours are CST 8am–5pm, with occasional flexibility for client-facing work. Periodic travel to clients and team working sessions is required.

What you will do

• Embed with client engineering teams and build production integrations in their codebases against OpenLoop’s Partner API.
• Own technical delivery through go-live and post-launch stabilization, including authentication, webhooks, data flows, and legacy-system integration.
• Build SDKs, reference implementations, CLI tooling, machine-readable documentation, and agentic workflows with human review, evaluations, and monitoring.
• Run and improve deployment agents, tenant readiness gates, conformance checks, seeding checkers, documentation checks, and gap-filing workflows.
• Convert recurring client needs into reusable recipes, checks, manifests, and platform capabilities.
• Define defensible scopes, communicate technical constraints early, and review integration designs across the emerging team.

Requirements

• 5–15+ years of software engineering experience, including significant delivery work for external customers or partners in their environments.
• End-to-end ownership of complex, customer-facing technical deployments, including post-launch issue resolution.
• Strong integration engineering experience across API design and consumption, authentication, webhooks, polling, idempotency, rate limits, pagination, schema drift, reconciliation, data, and cloud infrastructure.
• Daily experience building with AI agents, verifying their output, evaluating LLM-based systems, and identifying when agent results cannot be trusted.
• Experience handling sensitive data with a security-first approach and treating compliance constraints as design inputs.
• Excellent communication, scope judgment, and experience delivering difficult technical decisions to customers and go-to-market teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare or another regulated domain.
• Production experience with LLM-based or agentic systems, including quality measurement and handling confidently incorrect model output.
• Experience building developer platforms, SDKs, CLIs, API conventions, and tested documentation.
• Familiarity with EHR, scheduling, pharmacy, payments, or FHIR integrations.
• Experience supporting pre-sales technical conversations and a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
