TL;DR
Software Engineer - Guidance, Navigation, and Controls (Aerospace/Embedded Software): Designing and implementing guidance and navigation software for a clean-sheet airframe with an accent on flight dynamics, real-time embedded systems, and integration with flight hardware. Focus on developing guidance algorithms for UAS platforms, integrating low-level drivers and firmware, and validating software across microcontroller and Linux-based architectures.

Location: Full-time on-site in Los Angeles (Hawthorne), California, United States. U.S. Person status is required to access U.S.-only data systems.

Base salary: $160,000–$240,000 per year, excluding bonuses, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Design and implement guidance and navigation software within commercial software frameworks.
  • Lead guidance software development for a clean-sheet airframe design.
  • Support airframe design activities and system integration on flight hardware.
  • Develop real-time embedded software and hardware interfaces.
  • Integrate vendor-provided low-level drivers and firmware.
  • Collaborate with a small engineering team across product families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional object-oriented software development experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing guidance algorithms for UAS platforms using autopilot frameworks such as ArduPilot.
  • Practical understanding of fixed-wing and rotary-wing flight dynamics.
  • Extensive experience with microcontroller architectures such as STM32 and Linux on Nvidia Jetson, AMD/Xilinx SoC, or Microblaze architectures.
  • U.S. Person status is required; the role requires access to U.S.-only data systems.

Nice to have

  • Current or previous DoD security clearance and Part 107 remote pilot certification.
  • Experience integrating EO/IR or radar sensors.
  • Experience with VHDL, AMD/Xilinx FPGAs, Git, DevOps, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and modern FOSS/COTS tools.
  • Experience with high-TRL systems, production-level deployment, HW/SW integration and testing, and verification and validation.
