Senior/Staff Applied Scientist (AI)

Location: Hybrid, four days per week in the San Francisco office, United States. The posting also lists Mountain View, California.

Salary: $180,000–$330,000 annual base salary, with possible variable compensation, equity, and benefits.

Glean develops an enterprise Work AI platform combining search, an AI Assistant, AI agents, enterprise knowledge graphs, SaaS connectors, flexible LLMs, and APIs.

What you will do

• Collaborate with product data science and engineering teams to improve online A/B experimentation and support rigorous product decisions.
• Develop and maintain a scalable A/B experimentation platform based on stakeholder feedback.
• Write production code or evaluate vendors to deploy experimentation techniques for engineering, product, data science, product management, and design teams.
• Conduct end-to-end evaluations of use cases such as document and URL uploads, including evaluation-set generation, criteria design, and result interpretation.
• Break evaluations into granular assessments of summarization, analysis, generation, multi-step reasoning, strategy, tool use, coding, and system design.
• Own evaluation best practices for query intent classification, LLM stochasticity, statistical methodology, and industry benchmarking.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with a master’s degree or 3+ years with a PhD in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or another quantitative field.
• Strong statistics and/or machine learning expertise applied to products, internal tools, and processes.
• Advanced Python proficiency, including maintaining an internal source-controlled library.
• Proficiency in SQL and the modern data stack, including source-controlled dbt pipelines for ETL/ELT.
• Experience defining product KPIs and guardrail metrics, building dashboards, and analyzing raw data.
• Experience with B2B SaaS, ranking, A/B experimentation platforms, or machine learning measurement problems.
