Assistant Professor/Instructor of Media Communication

Location: Canyon, Texas, United States; some travel may be required for the Prairie News or Sports Broadcasting practicum. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout employment.

West Texas A&M University’s Department of Communication provides undergraduate education in media communication.

What you will do

• Teach undergraduate courses in media communication, media trends, news production, basic video, and related subjects.
• Develop and teach traditional and web-based courses.
• Lead students in the Prairie News or Sports Broadcasting practicum, including occasional travel.
• Participate in professional associations and conferences such as BEA and AEJMC.
• Conduct scholarly research and produce peer-reviewed conference presentations and journal publications if appointed to the tenure-track rank.
• Support the department, college, and university through professional service and community outreach.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Media Communication, Mass Communication, or a related field.
• Ph.D. required at the time of contract for the tenure-track Assistant Professor rank.
• Demonstrated high-quality teaching experience in media communication.
• At least two years of professional media-industry experience.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal communication, initiative, and student-centered teaching skills.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States is required; H-1B and other work authorization visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience advising and mentoring students.
• Experience in news production or sports-event broadcasting.
• Ph.D. in Media Communication or a related field.
