Lead Accountant (Fintech)

Location: Austin, Texas, with regular in-person collaboration from the downtown Austin office

What you will do

• Research and evaluate complex accounting matters under U.S. GAAP and advise the Finance organization.
• Assess the accounting treatment of new products, contracts, partnerships, financing arrangements, investments, acquisitions, and other non-routine transactions.
• Prepare technical accounting memoranda and position papers for management and external auditors.
• Lead and review month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Partner with the Controller on revenue recognition, leases, equity compensation, debt, business combinations, consolidations, and related accounting matters.
• Strengthen controls, reporting processes, accounting infrastructure, and workflow automation while collaborating with Finance, Legal, Operations, Product, and Technology.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful experience at a Big 4 or nationally recognized public accounting firm.
• Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience researching and documenting complex accounting matters.
• Experience with financial statements, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and external audits.
• Ability to evaluate unusual transactions, determine appropriate accounting treatment, communicate complex concepts clearly, and work independently.
• Ability to work regularly in person from the Austin office.

Nice to have

• CPA certification or strong progress toward CPA certification.
• Experience with ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 718, ASC 805, debt and equity instruments, consolidations, or complex financing transactions.
• Experience with NetSuite or another enterprise ERP system.
• Experience with SQL, financial reporting tools, accounting automation, M&A, financing transactions, or scaling internal controls.
