Engineering Manager (Ruby)

Location: Onsite in Austin, Texas; candidates should be based in Austin, TX.

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Lead and grow a product engineering team of 4–8 engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Write code, review designs and implementations, make architectural decisions, and ship features with the team.
• Own end-to-end delivery with product management and translate the roadmap into shipped products.
• Establish code review, testing, documentation, and observability standards.
• Run design reviews, on-call rotations, incident response, standups, and post-mortems.
• Partner with product, design, operations, and company leadership to align technical work with business needs.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing engineers directly.
• Backend-leaning full-stack experience with Ruby, React, and TypeScript.
• Experience developing engineers, providing performance feedback, and leading career growth.
• Experience with third-party APIs, observability, on-call incident management, AWS, and Terraform.
• Hands-on management approach with regular coding and code review.
• Ability to work onsite in Austin, Texas.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated fintech or compliance-heavy environments.
• Familiarity with agentic AI, LLM applications, or modern AI development.
• Empathy for end users and a pragmatic approach to balancing delivery speed with engineering standards.
