Producer (Broadcast News)

Location: Onsite in Houston, Texas, United States; flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, are required.

What you will do

• Originate, research, write, structure, produce, and edit morning newscasts and other news programming.
• Determine story placement, newscast flow, teases, graphics, timing, and other editorial and production elements.
• Coordinate with reporters, photographers, assignment editors, technical directors, editors, and newsroom managers.
• Assign stories, monitor coverage, and contribute to special programming and breaking-news decisions.
• Produce and edit editorial content for digital platforms and field-produce coverage when needed.

Requirements

• At least two years of newsroom experience as a producer and/or assignment editor in medium to large markets.
• Strong news judgment, accurate writing, communication, organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills.
• Highly proficient English and Spanish, with knowledge of the Hispanic community and its traditions.
• Experience with newsroom systems, wire services, news feeds, teleprompters, non-linear editing, social media, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and i-News.
• Must be willing to work from the Houston office, including flexible hours, weekends, and holidays.
• A journalism, mass communications, or related bachelor's degree is preferred; equivalent experience is accepted.
