Lead Genomic Data Scientist - Cancer

Location: Hybrid, based in the United Kingdom, with required attendance at the Canary Wharf office in London 1 day per week. Office locations include London, Cambridge, and Leeds.

What you will do

• Provide technical and scientific leadership for cancer genome analysis and interpretation projects.
• Lead end-to-end genomic analysis projects, including design, stakeholder engagement, code development, problem-solving, conclusions, and documentation.
• Benchmark and improve tools for whole-genome alignment, variant calling, annotation, prioritisation, interpretation, and quality control.
• Serve as the main contact for consulting collaborations with researchers and industrial partners.
• Develop and improve genome-analysis best practices across the organisation.
• Manage and lead an inclusive, high-performing analytical team.

Requirements

• In-depth expertise in cancer genomics, tumour drivers, and targeted-pathway interpretation.
• Strong Python skills for data processing and analysis.
• Experience developing high-quality reusable code with Git and CI/CD practices.
• Ability to evaluate and apply statistical and machine-learning methods while considering their assumptions and limitations.
• Experience leading a cross-functional analytical team in an academic or industry environment.
• PhD degree or equivalent practical industry experience, plus the ability to tailor presentations for varied audiences.
