Design Engineer (Plastic Components)

Location: Fitchburg, Massachusetts, USA; work at the plant 1–2 days per week is required. Global travel of 10–20% may be required.

Salary: $100,000–$121,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, analyze, prototype, test, and qualify precision plastic components, mechanisms, fixtures, and machinery.
• Plan, schedule, and execute multiple product development projects while meeting key deadlines.
• Collaborate with Business Development, Sales, Operations, and Quality to identify market needs and maintain high-volume manufacturing standards.
• Develop plastic products primarily for automotive, industrial, and retail applications.
• Diagnose customer technical problems and troubleshoot quality complaints across the product portfolio.
• Support initiatives at the Fitchburg manufacturing facility.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 6+ years of experience designing plastic components, mechanisms, and high-volume automotive plastic parts; candidates without a degree may qualify with 12+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in solid-modeling CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
• Deep understanding of injection-molding tooling and plastic materials.
• Experience with rapid prototyping, ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality systems, APQP, and PPAP procedures.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work at the Fitchburg plant 1–2 days per week and travel globally 10–20%.
