Software Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA; work is typically performed in a traditional office environment or remotely as needed.

Annual base salary: $78,100–$116,200, with potential additional discretionary or non-discretionary bonuses.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software modules across client, web, and server environments for laboratory automation.
• Integrate AI and machine learning models with OpenCV pipelines to analyze laboratory instrument images and sensor data.
• Collaborate with hardware, systems, and electrical engineering teams on robotic platforms and IoT-enabled devices.
• Support full-stack development for responsive user interfaces, backend architecture, real-time control, and monitoring.
• Develop and optimize SQL, NoSQL, and time-series data architectures for high-throughput acquisition and analytics.
• Perform testing, debugging, peer reviews, documentation, and lifecycle support using Agile, CI/CD, Docker, and AWS practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least one year of software engineering experience, preferably in laboratory automation, robotics, or computer vision.
• Proficiency in one or more object-oriented languages, such as Java, Python, or C++.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, modular design, databases, software development lifecycle practices, and logical problem solving.
• Understanding of IoT architectures and protocols such as MQTT and REST APIs.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, communicate technical concepts clearly, and manage multiple priorities.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Coursework or hands-on experience in image processing, machine learning, or robotics.
• Experience with OpenCV, TensorFlow, or similar machine learning and computer vision frameworks.
• Knowledge of automated build systems and installation software.
