Location: Bayan Lepas, Malaysia; onsite position at the Bayan Lepas PN1 or PN2 facility.

What you will do
- Develop head-media interface designs for magnetic recording media used in hard disk drive products.
- Improve sputtering processes to reduce defects and increase manufacturing yield.
- Optimize magnetic areal density by reducing head-media spacing while maintaining reliability and performance.
- Test and validate recording media designs against product specifications and industry standards.
- Analyze manufacturing data, identify optimization opportunities, and implement corrective actions.
- Support the transition of new designs from development to high-volume production, focusing on manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related engineering field.
- 15+ years of engineering development or R&D experience in magnetic recording media for hard disk drive applications.
- Strong knowledge of carbon overcoat and lubricant processes, reliability testing, and head-media interface design.
- Strong technical knowledge of vacuum technology, including PVD and CVD techniques.
- Experience analyzing manufacturing data and performance metrics in complex manufacturing systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical documentation, presentation, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience operating disk sputter equipment, preferably ANELVA deposition tools.
- Quality Engineering experience and knowledge of defect mitigation strategies.
- Experience transitioning designs from development to production.
- Experience leading collaboration across manufacturing, quality assurance, and product engineering.
