Senior Python Developer (Insurance)

Location: Remote; working hours are 13:00–22:00, 5/2, UTC+5

Building a new insurance platform for a US specialty insurer to replace its legacy business system.

What you will do

• Lead backend design and development for a new insurance platform covering quoting, rating, policies, billing, claims, agency management, and vendor integrations.
• Design a policy ledger with effective-dated changes, endorsements, cancellations, renewals, and a complete audit trail.
• Build a configurable rating engine that allows underwriters to change rates and rules without code changes.
• Develop reliable Celery-based background processing for billing schedules, renewal batches, notices, and event pipelines.
• Create an integration layer for approximately 20 external vendors, including payment, property data, e-signature, print, and mail providers.
• Migrate policy, billing, and claims data from the legacy system while maintaining financial accuracy; establish engineering standards and review code.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience, primarily with Python.
• Production experience with FastAPI or a similar framework, Celery or another task queue, and PostgreSQL database modeling and optimization.
• Experience designing a system from scratch and owning it in production.
• Production AWS experience with Docker, Terraform or a similar tool, and self-configured CI/CD.
• Experience with financial or transactional data, including ledgers, monetary values, and date-sensitive business logic.
• Clear spoken and written English; regular client communication is required.
