Trade Compliance Manager (Defense)

Location: Bristol, Rhode Island, or Washington, D.C., United States. Must be a U.S. Person under ITAR and able to pass a defense-contractor background check.

hirify.global is a startup designing and manufacturing attritable autonomous underwater vehicles for undersea security and defense applications.

What you will do

• Own and administer the global trade compliance program covering ITAR, EAR, U.S. sanctions, anti-boycott rules, and Foreign Trade Regulations.
• Determine export jurisdiction and classification, prepare CJ and CCATS requests, and manage DDTC and EAR license applications, agreements, provisos, and reporting obligations.
• Review contracts, proposals, supplier relationships, and government-furnished technical data for export-control clauses, flow-downs, foreign-person access, and compliance risks.
• Develop Technology Control Plans, operate restricted-party screening and end-use diligence processes, and coordinate access controls with IT and Security.
• Manage export shipping, U.S. import and customs compliance, AES filings, dangerous-goods requirements, lithium-battery shipments, and international travel with controlled technology.
• Deliver role-based training, maintain records, conduct internal reviews, support audits and voluntary disclosures, and advise engineering, contracts, operations, finance, and leadership.

Requirements

• 4–7 years or equivalent depth of experience in export control and trade compliance within defense, aerospace, or another regulated technology environment.
• Working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, U.S. sanctions, export licensing, and compliance requirements.
• Hands-on experience with DSP-5/73, TAA/MLA, EAR license exceptions, and DDTC’s DECCS system.
• U.S. Person status is required because of routine exposure to export-controlled systems, technical data, and facilities.
• Must be eligible and willing to become an Empowered Official after the initial onboarding period.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to pass a defense-contractor background check.

Nice to have

• Experience with maritime, naval, unmanned systems, or U.S. government programs, including FMS and DCS.
• Export compliance, contracts, or dangerous-goods certification.
• Experience with AES filings, HTS classification, CBP entry procedures, temporary imports, and lithium-battery shipments.
• Experience with Technology Control Plans, foreign-national access programs, FAR/DFARS, CMMC, or NIST SP 800-171.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, international affairs, engineering, or legal studies, or equivalent hands-on experience.
