Software Engineer, System Orchestration (Quantum Computing)

Location: Oxford, United Kingdom. Hybrid office commitment.

What you will do

• Build and extend services that schedule workloads on quantum computers and maintain execution history.
• Develop mechanisms that detect when systems require re-tuning and trigger calibration runs.
• Own persisted data models, migrations, and the code that reads and writes operational data.
• Create tests and harnesses for real quantum hardware and simulators.
• Work with systems teams to roll releases across the fleet and support deployed services.
• Improve observability, internal APIs, code quality, and review practices.

Requirements

• Strong programming skills in one or more mainstream programming languages.
• Experience with a systems programming language; Rust experience or willingness to learn Rust.
• Comfort with relational databases and SQL, especially PostgreSQL.
• Exposure to networked services and APIs such as gRPC or REST.
• Experience with schedulers, job queues, or workflow engines such as Celery, Airflow, Temporal, or Slurm.
• Comfort working in Linux, debugging running services, writing tests, reviewing code, and collaborating across disciplines.

Nice to have

• Experience with asynchronous programming, containers, and Kubernetes.
• Exposure to closed-loop systems, scientific computing, or research facilities.
