Location: Haywards Heath, England, United Kingdom. Workplace: On-site. Relocation support is available.

What you will do

  • Fabricate, assemble, fit, modify, and maintain precision mechanical components and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Support mechanical CAD work for fixtures, brackets, panels, tooling, and 3D-printed parts.
  • Build and maintain mechanical test setups, laboratory rigs, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Use workshop tools, hand tools, measuring equipment, 3D printers, and light fabrication processes.
  • Support design-for-manufacture, assembly documentation, inspection checks, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain workshop organisation, tooling control, asset tracking, stock levels, and laboratory facilities while coordinating with suppliers and contractors.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in mechanical assembly, fabrication, fitting, workshop practices, tools, and mechanical test setups.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, tolerances, and work instructions.
  • Confident use of hand tools, workshop tools, measuring equipment, 3D printers, and light fabrication or modification processes.
  • Experience building and maintaining mechanical or electro-mechanical test setups, rigs, fixtures, and laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, risk assessments, SOPs, and laboratory or workshop practices.
  • Relevant apprenticeship, technician qualification, degree, or equivalent practical experience in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, plus strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SolidWorks or comparable mechanical CAD software, 3D part design, FDM 3D printing, design-for-manufacture, or design-for-assembly.
  • Familiarity with vacuum, cryogenic, precision motion, cleanroom, or other specialist mechanical systems.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical integration, inspection and metrology tools, torque procedures, and controlled assembly processes.
  • Experience writing technical documentation, maintenance procedures, inspection records, or build instructions.
  • Experience with inventory management, tool tracking, or workshop asset control.
