Proteomics Specialist (Mass Spectrometry)

Location: Based in Milan, Italy; relocation support to Italy is available.

Salary: up to €52,000 per year, depending on seniority.

What you will do

• Develop and optimize bottom-up, spatial, plasma, clinical, and single-cell proteomics workflows.
• Operate, calibrate, clean, and troubleshoot mass spectrometry and LC-MS platforms.
• Manage high-throughput proteomics studies involving hundreds to thousands of samples while maintaining quality and reproducibility.
• Analyze data, support experimental design, explain results, and provide technical assistance to facility users.
• Train and mentor internal and external researchers and collaborate with vendors, service engineers, and research groups.
• Support software management, procurement, inventory, SOP development, quality assurance, and facility audits.

Requirements

• PhD in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field by the application deadline.
• At least five years of experience with bottom-up proteomics by mass spectrometry, including sample preparation.
• Fluent English required.
• Experience with proteomics search engines such as MaxQuant, FragPipe, Dia-NN, Spectronaut, or similar tools.
• Experience with plasma, spatial or tissue, clinical, or single-cell proteomics, plus implementation of mass spectrometry methods.
• Familiarity with operating and troubleshooting LC-MS platforms, alongside strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with DIA for global untargeted proteomics.
• Familiarity with Astral, Hybrid, or Tribrid mass spectrometers.
• Experience with large cohorts, patient samples, benchmarking, QC, workflow standardization, targeted assays, machine learning, or spatial proteomics.
