Fishery Resources Officer (Climate Change)

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations supports the transformation of agrifood systems and works on fisheries, aquaculture, food security, resilience, and environmental sustainability.

What you will do

• Support hirify.global climate change strategy implementation and the Blue Transformation Roadmap across fisheries, aquaculture, and aquatic food value chains.
• Coordinate follow-up to Committee on Fisheries requests and prepare guidance, tools, technical materials, and policy inputs.
• Plan and oversee hirify.global contributions to UNFCCC processes, UN Ocean Conferences, and other international climate events.
• Coordinate climate change resource mobilization, including concept notes, donor engagement materials, and knowledge products.
• Lead the NFI Working Group on Climate Change and coordinate knowledge exchange across headquarters and decentralized offices.
• Provide technical advice, policy support, capacity development, and backstopping to Member States, field projects, and partner institutions.

Requirements

• Advanced university degree in marine sciences, environmental sciences, fishery science, marine ecology, marine affairs, fisheries and aquaculture management or governance, or a related field.
• At least seven years of relevant experience in fisheries and aquaculture management, climate change analysis, environmental risk assessment, resource mobilization, programme management, scientific research, or related areas.
• Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another hirify.global official language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish.
• Experience with fisheries, climate change, environmental impacts, aquatic ecosystems, climate adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable aquatic food systems.
• Experience contributing to international processes, preparing technical and scientific documents, organizing large-scale meetings, and supporting policy development.
• Knowledge of the hirify.global Blue Transformation Roadmap, international climate policy processes, scientific information systems, monitoring frameworks, and technical publications.

Nice to have

• Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions.
• Experience with UNFCCC, CBD, UN Ocean Decade, G7/G20, or similar international processes.
• Experience coordinating cross-divisional and cross-agency collaboration.
