SMB Analytics & Data Science Lead (AI/Fintech)

Location: New York, United States

Salary: $230,000–$270,000 annually plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Analyze large datasets covering business cash flow, financial health, credit, repayment performance, and marketplace dynamics.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, senior management, clients, and prospects to develop and commercialize analytical and data products.
• Lead research and development of data science and decisioning products while mentoring colleagues on business and technical topics.
• Build scalable predictive models for credit risk, fraud detection, transaction classification, entity resolution, and small-business financial health.
• Translate ambiguous business challenges into well-defined data science problems and balance model complexity with interpretability and delivery timelines.
• Own the model lifecycle from data exploration and feature engineering through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience in risk management, analytics, or data science, including production decision strategies and predictive models.
• Significant knowledge of small-business credit, including underwriting, pricing, and portfolio management.
• Hands-on experience using LLMs and advanced AI tools to create products and solutions.
• Strong statistics, probability, machine learning, software engineering, and data engineering fundamentals.
• Excellent Python and SQL skills, with experience using pandas, scikit-learn, Hugging Face, Snowflake, or Postgres.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline and strong communication skills for technical and client-facing audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with messy financial data such as bank transaction streams, financial statements, or credit reports.
• A portfolio of data science or analytics accomplishments, including source code.
