What you will do

  • Study toward a Level 2 Engineering Operative apprenticeship on the electrical pathway during Year 1.
  • Manufacture satellite hardware in small teams or one-to-one settings using approved processes and advanced production techniques.
  • Assemble mechanical components using adhesives, bonding methods, measuring tools, tight tolerances, and technical drawings.
  • Install satellite components, connector brackets, heater mats, thermocouples, and thermostats.
  • Assemble, integrate, and modify electrical systems through harness routing, electrical connections, soldering, and crimping.
  • Perform continuity, bonding, insulation, and DC high-voltage tests, as well as first-level quality inspections.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be aged 16–21 and must not hold a Level 2 or higher qualification in engineering, aerospace, or a related technical field.
  • There are no strict formal entry requirements; GCSE Maths and English at Grade 3 or equivalent are desirable.
  • Strong communication, reliability, work ethic, a can-do attitude, and the ability to follow technical instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • No prior experience is required; full on-the-job training is provided.
  • Current legal authorisation to work in the United Kingdom is required. BPSS screening and potentially UK SC security clearance or export-control approval may apply.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience from DIY, building or fixing projects, model-making, technical projects, cooking, baking, beauty work, or similar practical activities.
  • Photos, documents, or a short video demonstrating a completed hands-on project.
