Scientist, Analytical Development (mRNA)

Location: 100% onsite in Norwood, Massachusetts, United States. Due to U.S. export control requirements, only U.S. persons are eligible.

Salary: $109,200–$174,600 per year, with potential bonus, incentive compensation, or equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Develop, optimize, and execute cell-based potency and biological activity assays for mRNA vaccines, therapeutics, and emerging modalities.
• Partner with Research to translate exploratory assays into robust, reproducible, CMC-amenable analytical methods.
• Generate proof-of-concept data and establish relationships between assay responses and mechanisms of action.
• Investigate assay performance, variability, failure modes, and technical issues through experimental design and data analysis.
• Develop and maintain cell systems and critical biological reagents, applying flow cytometry, ligand-binding, protein-expression, molecular biology, and other orthogonal methods.
• Advance assays from proof of concept through method development, pre-qualification, transfer, and lifecycle activities while communicating results and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

• U.S. person status is required because the position may involve access to export-controlled technology and data; non-U.S. persons cannot be sponsored for an export control license.
• 100% onsite presence in Norwood, Massachusetts is required.
• Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field with 0–2 years of relevant experience; or M.S. with 8+ years; or B.S./B.A. with 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Hands-on mammalian cell culture experience and experience developing or optimizing cell-based assays.
• Experience with cell biology, bioassay development, assay performance evaluation, quantitative analysis, and technical troubleshooting.
• Strong scientific communication, organization, documentation, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Immunology or oncology research experience, including multiparameter flow cytometry and in vivo or ex vivo assays.
• Experience with reporter assays, flow cytometry, ELISA/MSD, ligand-binding assays, qPCR/ddPCR, imaging, or protein-expression assays.
• Experience with mammalian cell-line engineering, cell banking, and characterization of assay-critical cell systems.
• Experience with mRNA, nucleic-acid therapeutics, lipid nanoparticles, vaccines, oncology, immunology, or other advanced therapeutic modalities.
• Knowledge of critical quality attributes, analytical control strategies, and regulatory expectations for biological activity or potency assays.
