Electrical Technician - GC (Relay Protection)

Location: Vacaville, California, United States. Onsite work with travel between multiple hydroelectric facility locations during work hours; extended hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and transfers to new facilities may be required.

Starting wage: $85.62 per hour.

What you will do

• Install, field-test, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electromechanical and microprocessor protective relay equipment.
• Maintain relay carriers, station automation, SCADA systems, station apparatus, instruments, and local and remote control devices.
• Test current transformers, power and potential transformers, transducers, and associated wiring.
• Read electrical drawings, schematics, elementaries, and connection diagrams.
• Record and file test results while collaborating with other electrical technicians.
• Operate company vehicles and perform work safely at hydroelectric facilities, substations, dams, canals, and remote outdoor sites.

Requirements

• Certified journey-level electrician with previous Journeyman Electrical Technician experience.
• At least two years of experience in relay and control, including two years testing protective relay equipment in a power station or high-voltage substation.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• Valid California driver's license and ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions.
• Ability to work at heights, on stairs, ladders, scaffolding, uneven terrain, and around energized or rotating equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds, wear required PPE, and work in extreme weather and confined or awkward positions.

Nice to have

• Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, or an associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with two years of relay and control experience.
• Completion of an apprentice electrical technician program.
• Experience with electromechanical and microprocessor protective relay devices in substations or powerhouses.
• Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work involving circuit boards, meters, and relay mechanisms.
• Ability to travel and transfer to hydro facilities within the PG&E service region.

• Pre-employment testing includes the Apprentice Electrical Technician Test, Physical Test Battery, Work Orientation Inventory-Physical/Technical Driving, and Provisional Journeyman Electrical Technician Assessment.
• Current PG&E employees must complete prerequisite tests before applying and secondary tests before interviewing.
