Derivatives General Counsel

Location: United States; remote

Salary: $232.1K–$517K annually, excluding bonus, equity, wellness allowance, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own global derivatives structuring strategy across product structures, venues, entities, clearing models, and client delivery.
• Resolve cross-entity legal and regulatory problems involving hub-and-spoke architecture, unified balances, cross-margining, risk allocation, and client relationships.
• Serve as the senior legal owner for derivatives and trading products and participate in product launches from the outset.
• Build and lead a senior derivatives legal team across the US, UK, and EEA, including hiring, levelling, development, and succession planning.
• Partner with Global Policy and Government Relations on engagement with the CFTC, NFA, FCA, BMA, CySEC, and other regulators.
• Support regulated entities with ongoing supervision, new permissions, product-launch variations, and specialist external counsel.

Requirements

• US admission to practice, or qualification as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales, Ireland, an EU Member State, or an equivalent jurisdiction.
• 18+ years of post-qualification experience in financial services regulatory law, gained in-house, at a regulated financial institution, liquidity provider, or relevant law practice.
• Expertise in at least one derivatives regulatory regime, such as the US, UK, EEA, or Bermuda, and strong working knowledge of at least one additional regime.
• Substantial senior experience in derivatives legal work, including ownership of structuring strategy across multiple licensed entities.
• Direct experience with virtual asset markets and regulator engagement, including notifications, information requests, and supervisory correspondence.
• Experience building or materially scaling a legal function, with credibility before regulators and the ability to operate as the senior legal voice in a fast-moving product business.

Nice to have

• Exposure to prediction markets, margin lending, tokenized products, or structured products.
• Experience integrating acquired regulated entities and their legal teams into a group legal function.
