Senior Software Engineer (Defense Tech)

Location: Washington D.C.; in-office position. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain required export authorizations without sponsorship. Candidates may be asked whether they currently reside near Washington D.C. or are willing to relocate to the area.

Salary: $170,000–$200,000 per year, plus potential equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build full-stack software for data management, real-time visualization, and command and control of autonomous maritime systems.
• Develop a real-time platform that ingests, processes, stores, and displays data from thousands of marine systems.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, autonomy, and business teams across embedded, cloud, and user-facing products.
• Create integrations with external systems, sensors, electronics, and hardware interfaces.
• Drive technical decisions, own large projects from inception, and improve the user experience through stakeholder feedback.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to software architecture, roadmaps, and technical leadership.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience architecting, developing, and iterating on full-stack software products.
• Proficiency with Python, TypeScript, React, GraphQL, or related technologies.
• Experience with data structures, algorithms, software design, SQL and NoSQL databases, and production systems.
• Experience integrating software with electronics or hardware systems and working with IoT, defense technology, or related systems.
• Experience working with end users, communicating timelines, developing roadmaps, and delivering projects from zero to one.
• Must satisfy U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for potentially classified information.

Nice to have

• Experience in controlled or classified environments.
• Previous startup experience and experience working with non-technical customers.
• Experience building tools that accelerate software testing and development.
